We have partnered with the Rotary Clubs of Madras Besant Nagar (India), Scarborough Cavaliers (UK), and Scarborough (WA) to install a 50,000 litre system for capturing rainwater at an orphanage, Uluru Children’s Home, in southern India, at Kadapakkam, near Pondicheri.
This project is stage two of providing water to the orphanage. The first stage took place in 2005 after the founder, Dr Chandran spoke at one of the Club's meetings and reported that the orphanage’s water supply had been completelyc ontaminated after the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004. The matter of capturing rainwater during the monsoon season was raised by two of our members; the first project grew from there, including a global grant and a partnership between our Club and the Rotary Club of Madras Besant Nagar. Together we installed guttering, plumbing and tanks with a total of 50,000 litres capacity.
